Australia in 2024: themes from the sky
These are broad themes for Australia through 2024, read the way mundane astrology reads a nation: from the chart cast when the Sun enters Mesha each year, from the country's founding chart and from the year's eclipses. They describe tendencies in public life, not fixed events.
Mundane readings here stay with themes and timing windows. They say nothing about any public figure and do not try to name particular events.
The year chart (Mesha Sankranti)
- Cast for
- Lagna
- Makara (Capricorn)
- Lord of the year chart
- Shani (Saturn) in house 2
The solar year began on 14 April 2024, when the Sun entered Mesha. In the chart cast for that moment at Canberra, Capricorn was rising.
Saturn rules the rising sign and so sets the tone of the year's chart. It stands in the 2nd house, which keeps national wealth, reserves, food supply and the tone of public speech in focus through the year.
Planets that stand out
Jupiter in the 4th house brings growth, support and wider opportunity to land, housing, farming, the season's weather and the mood at home.
The founding chart
- Founded
- 1901-01-01
- Lagna
- Mesha (Aries)
- Moon sign
- Mesha (Aries)
The founding chart of Australia, 1 January 1901, has Aries rising and the Moon in Aries.
Shani (Saturn)
Saturn is in Aquarius: the 11th house from the founding chart's rising sign (lawmaking, alliances, gains and shared hopes) and the 11th house from its Moon.
Saturn here tends to ask for patience, restructuring and careful budgets in these matters.
Guru (Jupiter)
Jupiter is in Aries: the 1st house from the founding chart's rising sign (the country as a whole and the general mood of its people) and the 1st house from its Moon.
Jupiter here tends to support growth and sound planning in these matters.
On 1 May 2024 Jupiter moves into Taurus: the 2nd house from the founding chart's rising sign (national wealth, reserves, food supply and the tone of public speech) and the 2nd house from its Moon.
Rahu
Rahu is in Pisces: the 12th house from the founding chart's rising sign (public spending, foreign investment, ports and work done out of sight) and the 12th house from its Moon.
Rahu here tends to stir new ideas and fresh ambitions, along with some uncertainty.
Ketu
Ketu is in Virgo: the 6th house from the founding chart's rising sign (the workforce, public services, public debt and day to day administration) and the 6th house from its Moon.
Ketu here tends to bring a review of old ways and a quieter, inward turn.
Planets changing sign
No sign changes in this period.
Eclipses
- Solar eclipse
A solar eclipse falls on 9 April 2024 in Pisces, the 12th house of the founding chart (public spending, foreign investment, ports and work done out of sight).
- Lunar eclipse
A lunar eclipse falls on 18 September 2024 in Pisces, the 12th house of the founding chart (public spending, foreign investment, ports and work done out of sight).
- Solar eclipse
A solar eclipse falls on 3 October 2024 in Virgo, the 6th house of the founding chart (the workforce, public services, public debt and day to day administration).
The weeks around an eclipse are read as a time to review and finish rather than to launch new public ventures in the matters it touches.
